Are you sick of “running your business” instead of doing what you love?

The reality of running your own business…

It’s probably fair to say that when you got started with your own business you had some grand plans to have more money, more time and get out from underneath the control of someone else.

The idea of being in control of your own destiny is one of the more common reasons for starting a business, alongside seeing a gap in the market or wanting to make more money.

But when it comes down to it, the reality is that many people who do start and run their own businesses (especially the smaller ones), quickly realise that rather than being able to focus on doing the thing they love, they have to start wearing a ton of hats in order to ensure they can survive beyond the first year.

There are new customers to find, existing customers to service and keep in touch with, a website (and or Facebook page, Twitter account, Instagram feed) to manage, software to buy, accounts to keep and the list goes on. And let’s not forget that none of these things are one and done, it’s a continuous process you have to keep on top of.

Sometimes it feels like you’re on a hamster wheel, constantly running but going nowhere… the worst part is you probably know what you need to be doing but between keeping the lights on and all the “actual” work you need to do, you just don’t have time to learn any new skills to do things properly.

The good news is, you don’t have to do it alone…

Look, I understand that you’ve probably got a little “generalist” (someone who’s decent at a lot of things) in you, if you weren’t then you probably wouldn’t have been able to start your own business in the first place. After all there are a lot of different plates to keep spinning when you do and not everyone is cut out for it, let’s be honest.

The tricky thing is, when it comes right down to it, it’s better to get an expert in to take care of the things that you’re not best placed to tackle. In the long run, doing some of this stuff poorly can be more expensive than partnering with the right person (or people) and developing a solution tailored for you and your business.

And when it comes to technology or digital solutions, there are so many options and new fads that unless you’re really prepared to do your research and get neck deep into understanding it all, you’re highly unlikely to find yourself getting hold of a solution that will be best for business in the long term…

Worse still, you may just end up lost and confused.

So here’s the thing… I firmly believe that some of us are just born to be technologists (a fancy way of saying a bit of a geek). The type of people that thrive when it comes to using digital solutions to make people’s lives that much easier, whether it be taking care of existing customers, finding new ones or making it easier for staff to do their jobs.

On the other hand, when it comes to [insert your profession here] I probably wouldn’t have a scooby doo about how to do it at all, let alone well. There’s probably a ton of things I wouldn’t even think about and ways that you could help me that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind… and vice versa, so why wouldn’t you let me help you?

We may not be the right fit, but you have nothing to lose…

I know that I can’t help everyone… we may not be a good fit or you won’t like what I have to say.

But, what I do know is that I am great a looking at things from a new perspective and finding solutions where others may not even bother to look.
